Kodak Black Arrested at Traffic Stop in Florida

Rap star Kodak Black was arrested on Saturday during a traffic stop in Florida, as per a report by CNN. The 25-year-old performer, whose legal name is Bill Kahan Kapri, was driving a purple Dodge Durango that had windows that appeared to be tinted beyond the legal limit, initiating the pull-over, according to a police statement.

When officers approached the vehicle, there was a “strong odor of marijuana,” according to a report from TMZ. This triggered a search that uncovered 31 oxycodone pills and cash totaling nearly $75,000.

It was also discovered that the platinum-selling recording artist was driving with an expired license and, following a records check, that the vehicle’s registration was expired. He was taken to Broward County Jail.

In January 2021, on his last day in office, President Donald Trump granted a pardon to the performer for weapons charges in Florida. The rapper received a 36-month sentence in federal prison after confessing to falsifying forms to purchase four firearms in Miami in 2019. “Kodak Black is a prominent artist and community leader,” a White House statement read before citing his numerous charitable contributions. Trump’s pardon of Black coincided with one for rapper Li’l Wayne and former political strategist Steve Bannon

His previous legal troubles are numerous, involving arrests for kidnapping, sexual battery, assault, and disrupting a court-issued anger management session by “burping repeatedly.” He has recorded some of his verses from jail, over the phone.

In 2019, he (partially) apologized for making what many felt were inappropriate overtures to actress Lauren London soon after her boyfriend Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed. “If I disrespected you, Lauren London, in any shape or form, I am sorry … Even though I didn’t. Rest in peace to dude, if I disrespected Lauren London in any way even though I know I didn’t, my bad,” he said on Instagram Live.

In February, Black was reportedly injured in a shooting outside a Justin Bieber afterparty in Los Angeles.
